This performance is presented by the Clement A. Price Institute on Ethnicity, Culture & the Modern Experience at Rutgers University-Newark in partnership with NJPAC.
As part of this year’s Jersey Moves! Festival of Dance, Nimbus will bring two signature works: Esther, an edgy, multidisciplinary retelling of the Old Testament tale of gender, power, and seduction, created in collaboration with Brooklyn-based indie rock band Sky Pony; and Memo, an exploration of collective and personal memory, set to music by Antonín Dvořák, George Rochberg, and Ernest Bloch. For this performance of Memo, a work woven in real time with written recollections provided by the audience, Nimbus will be joined by young dancers from Newark Arts High School.
Nimbus Dance Works focuses on the intersection between professional dance and innovative ways of involving communities and audiences. The company presents works choreographed by artistic director Samuel Pott as well as commissions by leading international dancemakers.
